OUR MISSION
Promoting Innovation to
Combat Catastrophic Wildfires.
California Fire Research and Development, Inc.’s mission is to promote new ideas, and technologies that can help shorten the duration of the Catastrophic and Devastating Wildfires we have seen in recent years.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Wet Bulldozers
Currently we want to get the Fire Agencies to prefer the use of Wet Bulldozers over the current use of dry ones. Presently the usual fire fighting plan is to put fire lines around a fire with a typical Bulldozer hired from contractors. We believe Wet Bulldozers that have Fire Apparatus on them can help shorten Fire duration by speeding up the mop up process by bringing water and fire hoses onto the fire line as soon as the containment lines are established. On a lot of fires fire Trucks cannot access some areas on fires sometimes due to terrain and trees. Thus the need for Dozers with water should be an overwhelming choice.
Additionally we will work on new ideas and develop equipment to help put fires out sooner by the use of equipment currently not in use by the Fire Agencies and adapting it to work when Airplanes and Helicopters cannot fly. On most fires Aircraft don’t fly at night, in heavy smoke, or in very windy conditions.
This is time lost fighting fires and we think the use of modified equipment can fill this void which can help shorten Fire times.
In the relentless pursuit of wildfire solutions, our work at California Fire Research and Development is both challenging and purposeful. Fueled by a deep commitment, we innovate to safeguard lives and communities, confronting adversity with determination for a safer future.
WET BULLDOZERS WORK UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS
Flights Do Not Fly

Advocating for the adoption of Wet Bulldozers equipped with fire apparatus, our initiatives aim to revolutionize wildfire control. Key projects include enhancing firefighting capabilities through improved pump specifications, evaluating full-time staffing benefits for private wet dozer fleets, and studying subsidies.
Additionally, we explore safety enhancements, response time benefits, and optimized retardant use. Our focus extends to analyzing improved mop-up times, foam proportioner configurations, and assessing the advantages of new heavy water trucks. Proprietary studies also drive the development of off-road equipment for enhanced fireline support.
